During second semester in my creative writing class I started writing an original story entitled "The Turning Of Times" which I'm still continuing to write. I was working on chapter five when I realized how much I hate one of the names of my characters! I was kinda stuck! One of he hardest things for a non-fictional writer to do is pick names for the characters right? Believe it or not it's tough to get a good name to stick! Well I've been doing some research and have discovered that it's really not that hard at all. Any good story starts with a list. That's good for me because I'm pretty sure I'm the queen of lists! First, make a list of three or more things. It can be a list of anything! Your shopping list, hobbies, and so on... so I made a list of my hobbies.
Hunting
Swimming
Writing
From that list character names started pouring from my head!
Hunting: Hunter, Fin (fishing), Flick, Tick
Swimming: Devon (drowning), Slick, Cannon, (cannon ball)
Writing: Whit, Wilson, Wallace, Brooklyn (book)
It's as simple as that! From that list you can use your creativity to come up with some original names for your characters! It helped me come "unstuck' for the time being...
